Subject: fucking virii
I finally decided (after averaging a few hundred a day for over a week)
that I do not ever want any email with executable attachments.
And since I hate procmail's needlessly moronic syntax, I got help from:
[ http://www.neilgunton.com/blocking_spam_viruses/#procmail ]
And then threw this into my .procmailrc

* ^(Content-(Type|Disposition):.*|[ ]*(file)?)name=("[^"]*|[^
]*)\.(
bat|cmd|com|exe|js|pif|scr)
mail/viralshit
}
This puts it all into the viralshit folder on the server, rather than
leaving it in my INBOX which is downloaded. The page advocates just
throwing it straight into /dev/null, but I'm always reluctant to do that.
But after checking the folder (over 500 from the last 3 days) I'm starting
to think it may just be the right thing to do.
I fucking hate email now. It's becoming far more fucking trouble than it's
worth.

"For their newest Gameboy Advance game, Jaleco Entertainment quietly
borrowed the source code for an open-source Nintendo emulator. While the
emulation community was outraged, the emulator's programmer felt a bit
differently."

Delighted to inform you that we were notified by NSF that we will be
awarded a 5-year, $5M grant to build BeeSpace.
BeeSpace aims to build new biological databases, informatics and text
mining tools to use the bee genome sequence and brain gene expression
information as centerpieces of a new approach to integrative biology to
gain a deeper understanding of the relationships between genes, brain, and
social behavior. The three components will be: 1) individual brain gene
expression profiles for all honey bee social behaviors (Illinois); 2) in
situ analysis for a selected set of several hundred genes (Wake Forest);
and 3) a new interactive knowledge acquisition environment that has some of
the components of FlyBase and some unique components that reflect the
imperative to integrate across genes, brain and behavior (Illinois). There
will also be an education and outreach component (both sites).
Bruce Schatz, Graduate College of Library and Information Science, is the
PI, and the team includes Susan, Chip Bruce (education) Sandra Rodriguez
and ChengXiang Zhai.

This is a huge change. I guess they got tired of not showing up in any

blah blah John Kerry blah blah blah standing at a crossroads blah blah.
There's a din in the room. I had to go get a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee to

Everything on this site is stupid and broken, and I hate it I hate it I

Subject: Creative Commons still sucky
Although I generally try to avoid open source free software licensing
bullshit (I just use a BSD/MIT style style for everything I can) but
Debian's take on the issues (still!) with Creative Commons licenses is
good reading. They're just so much fucking bullshit baggage with Lessig's
little "experiment" with intellectual property waivers that I can't ever
see myself using them. I'd rather be unambiguously open (BSD/MIT) or
unambiguously closed and simply have people ASK me what they can do with
my work before they do it.
Why Dripmail? What? Huh?
