Of all the graduations I’ve attended, this was by far the least annoying. Cap and gown was even optional! (1)
But, of course, that won’t stop me from complaining.
I felt that there were far too many overt political statements made. Regardless of whether I agree with the sentiments (I generally did, although a few made me cringe) it seems tacky and out of place, for example, to make offhand disparaging remarks about the “No Child Left Behind Act” when talking about librarians as educators.
But, holy crap, I have a Masters degree!
- I assumed since it was optional only about half the people would be wearing it. Not wanting to deal with the hassle I didn’t buy a cap or a gown. What actually happened was that about 95% of people did wear regalia. Oops.
